Police nab 'Health Inspector' with special 'concern' for ladies hostels

Police say that John Varghese, a native of Kollam, conducted numerous raids across the state, specialising in ladies' hostels and extorted money from hostel managements under the guise of a health inspector. He used to present a fake identity card and 'inspect' the kitchen and rooms of the hostels.
The fraud was finally discovered when Varghese conducted a raid at a women's hostel in Kollam and demanded ₹20,000 from hostel authorities. The hostel warden gave him ₹10,000 instantly. A day later, Varghese rang up the warden again and demanded more money, threatening to shut down the hostel if they were not ready to pay ₹7,000.
The warden became suspicious, and this overtly aggressive demand and informed the police. Police in mufti waited at the hostel and arrested the fraudster when he came to collect the money.
