With HC staying further probe by CBI, will Sowjanya’s parents ever get justice?

  • One Santhosh Rao was arrested; but her parents insist more could be involved
HC stays further probe by CBI into Sowjanya case

The court was hearing a petition filed by Dheeraj Jain, Uday Jain and Malik Jain, named as witnesses in the sensational murder case in the CBI chargesheet.

The court's move has certainly dealt a blow to Sowjanya's parents' hope for the justice.

Sowjayna, a second PU student of SDM College in Ujire was raped and murdered in October 9, 2012.

The incident had sparked outrage throughout the state demanding the accused be brought to books. Massive campaigns were held in Ujire and other places of Dakshina Kannada district condemning the incident.

One Santhosh Rao was arrested in the case. But Sowjanya's parents insisted that there were more involved in the case.

Under pressure, the state government handed over the case to CBI.

The investigation agency had named Dheeraj Jain, Uday Jain and Malik Jain as eyewitnesses in the case. However, Sowjanya's parents filed a plea for further investigation after the chargesheet was filed by the CBI. But this was challenged by three witnesses in the high court and hence, the court allowing their plea, stayed further probe by CBI.
