Gowda murder case: he was warned about his impending death

Gowda murder case: he was warned about his murder

The family of Yogesh Gowda, a senior BJP member who was hacked to death in the Dharwad district of Karnataka on Wednesday, claims that Yogesh had received a warning letter just two days before he was assassinated.

Yogesh’s family, along with their written complaint, enclosed a copy of the letter and handed it to the Upanagar Police Station.

The letter stated that Yogesh’s brother Uday was murdered by Vinay Kulkarni, who is an MLA from the district and HK Patil, and that they were now plotting to kill Yogesh as well. “Don’t try to find who I am; I will give you all the information in another letter soon.  I need your help, and I will come to you personally when I come to you, please help me,” the letter further said.

Neither Yogesh Gowda nor his family had taken this letter seriously until tragedy struck. It was only yesterday afternoon that the family connected the dots and submitted a copy to the police.

“The case is still being investigated, and we are trying our best to find the culprits and take required action against them,”Panduranga Rane, Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner said. So far the police at Hubballi-Dharwad station have arrested 12 people in connection with Yogesh’s murder.

According to Suvarna News, Basavaraja Muttagi, and Vinayak, close acquaintances of Vinay Kulkarni are under police custody. Basavaraja Muttagi also happens to be an active worker of the Jaya Karnataka Organization, which was founded by Muttappa Rai. Apart from them, Irfan Mundagod and members of Hanchinal family who had a long time rivalry with Yogesh Gowda and his family have also been arrested and are being interrogated.

According to the police, call records of Irfan indicate that he was an actively involved in the murder case. However, when Vinay Kulkarni was asked about his name being mentioned in the anonymous letter, he said, “I have also received such threat letters several times, and I have received Whatsapp messages as well. When someone is growing in life, there are going to be people trying to bring us down, and I never pay heed to such people.”
