Good times ahead for start-ups in Karnataka

 

Information and Bio-Technology Minister Priyank Kharge flagged off a new project aimed at bringing smiles to the faces of startup entrepreneurs.

 

In the new scheme, biotechnology and information technology startup hopefuls in Karnataka will get software tools, cloud credit, debugging and testing tools and financial help.

 

The government has a tie up with several prestigious companies for these services - including IBM, Amazon, Microsoft, Bizpark, Kionics, BSNL, Vodafone, Citrus and HeadSpin companies.

 

With this, the government aims at improving 20,000 technology-based start-ups by 2020. If this becomes a reality, Karnataka will be the hottest spot in the startup ecosystem.

 

Those interested can register at WWW.startup.karnataka.gov.in and examine the Karnataka Booster Kit programme for themselves.

 

The state has decided to reserve ₹400 crore for the project, over a period of four years. The project will have a separate budget earmarked for it, apart from the ₹200 crore kept aside for direct investment.

 

It has also planned to have monthly meetings with companies registered under IT and BT service units. This programme will help the government be a part of the project from the very start, right up to the establishing of the company.

 

The first such meeting will be held on August 15 at Nascom’s 10,000 startup warehouse in Diamond District on Old Airport Road at 10.30 am, said Minister Priyank Kharge.
