Taking media persons in the press gallery by surprise, former minister KP Mohanan walked into their group and sat through the morning session on Tuesday in the Kerala Legislative Assembly and carefully took notes. He was reporting the proceedings for a small Malayalam daily from his hometown!

"I got excellent response from fellow reporters," Mohanan said outside the Assembly hall. "Some even congratulated me for taking up the job. I am thrilled by the feedback," added the former minister, who seemed to enjoy his new role.
Mohanan, who handled the agriculture portfolio in the United Democratic Front (UDF) ministry, was representing 'Padayani,' a vernacular daily from Thalassery established by P R Kurup, his father and prominent socialist leader. Mohanan said that he was planning a new edition of the paper. Giving a break to his political career for a while, he is also planning to become a full-time correspondent for the newspaper.
Waving goodbye to his fellow journos, Mohanan assured to get back to the assembly tomorrow. "From now on, you will see me more as a media person than a politician," he promised.
Mohanan, who represented Koothupramba constituency in Kannur in the last Assembly, was defeated by KK Shailaja of the CPM, who is the present Health Minister.
