On February 23, an air ambulance was used to transport a heart from Apollo Hospital to MS Ramaiah Narayan Heart Centre in Mattikere. This is the first time when air ambulance was used for transporting an organ and the whole operation took seven minutes. 

The heart belongs to a 45-year-old woman and the recipient is a 51-year-old from Andhra Pradesh. By road even after using the green corridor would have taken a minimum of 30 minutes to transport the organ.

The donor was declared brain dead by the doctors of Apollo following which her husband and son consented to organ donation. Apart from the heart, the rest of the organs kidney, pancreas, liver and cornea were donated to other patients at the Apollo Hospital as reported by a leading daily. 

A helicopter was used for the transport of the heart provided by Aviators Air Rescue. The national daily quoted a source of the Aviators Air Rescue as confirming that the whole operation cost is around ₹85,000. 

The recipient was diagnosed with triple coronary artery blockage and doctors recommended immediate heart transplant.
