Family mistakenly thrown to street by Central Bank

At a time when corporate defaulters like Vijay Mallya are partying in foriegn countries, the banks do not show any mercy on poor loan defaulters. On 1 February, Central Bank officials threw out three small children and their parents from their home in Kochi for not repaying loan taken by their uncle!

Even though the family members tried to convince the bank officials that they were mistaken, no one was ready to take heed. The cries and requests only made the officials more aggressive. The legal expert, who was part of the bank officials' team, abused and threatened the family. When the local people  questioned the action, they also got their share of abuse.

Roby, a resident of Chelavannur in Kochi, his wife Jensy and three children were asked to leave the house immediately on 1 February. Roby's brother Roy had taken loan from the bank a few years back by giving his property in Maradu Village nearby as collateral. When he failed to pay it back, the bank officials mistakenly came in search of Roby and confiscated his property, throwing the family out on the street.

Though the family and the local people pointed out the mistake, the bank officials were not ready to admit it. Later, people came together and started protesting. After three days, the bank officials realised their mistake and returned the house. This time, the bank was very humble and apologetic. Roby, however, is planning to take legal action against the bank.
