In a shocking incident, a man from Chennai slashed the throat of a 23-year-old girl at her home while her parents looked on in horror.

The police told The New Indian Express that the girl, Sayeeda Saba Fatima, came in contact with the attacker, Safiullah (28), through Facebook. They quickly became friends and were also introduced to each other’s family. In the course of time, they fell in love.
“While Safiullah would attend all Fatima’s family functions, none of his kin would attend them,” said police. “Safiullah’s father disapproved of the whole thing.”
However, there was trouble in paradise as Fatima and Safiullah started having misunderstandings. This came to a head on Sunday. Safiullah went to Fatima’s home in Royapettah where they soon began quarrelling.
“While they were quarrelling, Safiullah suddenly got enraged. He took out his knife and slit her throat in front of her parents. Fatima was rushed to Royapettah General Hospital where she is recovering,” police said. Police have taken Safiullah into custody.
Several such attacks have happened in the past. In February 2017, a girl from Bankura named Akanksha Sharma was murdered by her Facebook friend – turned – live-in partner Udayan Das in Bhopal. In May 2017, Pune city police arrested the Facebook friend of a teenage girl after giving her sedatives, forcefully marrying her and threatening to kill her family.
