Kirloskar MD's son kidnapped to finance abductor's movie aspirations

Extortion to produce a movie

Nineteen-year-old Ishan, a second year student in the Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology was abducted at Yelahanka by two men who forcefully pushed him into a car. Later that evening, Ishan’s mother received a call from the abductors who demanded a ₹ 50 lakh ransom.

Ishan’s father, the Managing Director of Kirloskar Electric Company immediately approached Bengaluru Police Commissioner NS Megharikh, who ordered ten teams to search for the boy.

The abductors left the boy and fled as soon as they realised the police were on their trail.

The kidnappers, however, were  adamant on getting paid their ransom, so they called the boy’s girlfriend next and blackmailed her for money.

The perpetrators threatened to release photos and videos of her with her boy friend on social media if the girl refused to pay the ransom. The girl immediately informed the police who used her in a plot to nab the kidnappers.

As per police instructions, the girl answered their call and agreed to pay them the money.

She was instructed by the abductors to travel in an auto rikshaw to meet them, so the authorities had a police officer dress up as a rickshaw driver and drive the girl to the meeting point.

Two more cops followed the auto under the guise of cab drivers.

The accused instructed her to keep driving around in circles to avoid being tracked by the police. Finally one of the accused arrived at her place where the police who was dressed as the rickshaw driver arrested him took him into custody. The police eventually tracked down the other accused Muniyappa (29) alias Eshwar, a resident of KR Puram Bank colony, Hasan Dongri (26) a resident of Kodigehalli, Jagadeesh (32) of Yelahanka, Jagannaatha (28) from Yelahanka Satellite town and Manoj (19) a resident of Chikkabommasandra .

The main accused, Muniyappa had a long list of crimes behind him.

Muniyappa was a movie buff who wanted to act in films, unable to get any roles in mainstream cinema he decided to produced a movie called ‘Challenger’ in which he planned to play the hero. He had released a poster of the movie and commenced shooting for the film.

However, after fifteen days of shooting there was a scarcity for money and in order to consolidate more fund he hatched a plan to kidnap rich people.

In his first attempt at kidnapping, he followed a rich man in Sadashivanagar for fifteen days but could not succeed in kidnapping him.

Ishan was his second target. To make sure his plan succeeded he even purchased a car.

Unfortunately for Muniyappa his ploy was completely foiled and had to abandon the kidnapped boy within a day as the police were hot on his trail.
