Ganjam Venkatasubbiah (103), renowned Kannada writer, grammarian, editor, lexicographer lost his wife GV Lakshmi (92) on Tuesday morning in Bengaluru.

Theirs was a marriage that lasted 80 years. GV Lakshmi got married to G Venkatasubbaiah when she was just 11 years old, in 1935. He was 22.

GV Lakshmi was suffering from age-related ailments and died at her residence in 7th Block, Jayanagar, Bengaluru.

She is survived by two daughters, two sons, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

GV Arun, son of G Venkatasubbaiah said that the funeral rituals were held in a simple way as his father desired so.

GV Lakshmi was the first critic of her husband’s works. She read every book he has written before it went to press.

She established the Vanita Seva Samaj in 1955 for the welfare of women. GV Lakshmi got married to G Venkatasubbaiah when she was just 11 years old.
