Do not release water to Tamil Nadu urge Karnataka ministers

Discussing the Supreme Court’s verdict to release 6,000 cusecs of water for seven days to Tamil Nadu, the senior Karnataka Cabinet ministers pressed the chief minister not to release water to the latter.

Sources indicated to Suvarna News stated that Health Minister Ramesh Kumar and Law Minister TB Jayachandra claimed that choice to not release water to Tamil Nadu was also the demand of the people.

Law Minister Jayachandra also submitted a copy of a judgement given by Justice Uday Lalit (one of the members of the bench which gave the verdict on releasing Cauvery water) in another case.

The judgement stated that, if any party (or government) fails to abide by the Supreme Court’s verdict because the order is impossible to implement, then it would not amount to contempt of court.

Following this, all Cabinet ministers have unanimously urged chief minister Siddaramaiah not to release water, taking this judgement into consideration.
