DMK holds a Rail Roko Stalin detained for jallikattu

Tamil Nadu’s mass movement against the Supreme Court ban on Jallikattu is gaining massive support from ruling government as well as opposition parties. On the one hand, the ruling AIADMK party is trying to get an ordinance from the Central government to host the bull taming sport, and on the other hand, the opposition DMK called for a Rail Roko agitation in the state to show their solidarity with the popular sentiment.

After PETA’s objection and Supreme Court’s ban on this ancient and traditional sport, people across the state of Tamil Nadu came out on roads to protest against the ban. The state government also stood by its people and supported the hosting of Jallikattu. Currently, the centre of this protest is Marina Beach and politicians have been kept away from it.

To show support to the protest, DMK called for blocking the rail movement within the state. MK Stalin, the working president of DMK, party MP Kanimozhi and few other party leaders were detained for halting a train and later on released.

Meanwhile, the ruling party MPs in New Delhi have marched towards the Home Ministry to meet Rajnath Singh, the Home Minister.
