Bengaluru: From January Passenger Information System Boards (PISBs) will be displayed in five bus stations in Karnataka. BMTC has announced that they plan to install these boards in all 2,212 bus shelters in the city.

The bus stations which are going to have PISB in the first phase are Shantinagar, Kengeri, Yeshwanthpur, Shivajinagar and Majestic. The BMTC has also initiated to appoint security guards at these bus stations to secure the PISBs from theft.

These PISBs will display the routes, ETAs and other information. Also, the display will be written in two languages that are in Kannada and in English. The PISB will reduce stress among passengers who are always looking for this information and often find it difficult to obtain.

BMTC has however, have not invested in installing these screens in bus stations. Instead, they associated with contractors to install the screens and display their advertisements after the ETA is displayed. The contractor will pay Rs 4,239 per month to the BMTC for each board.

Many talks between BMTC and BBMP earlier regarding the PISB were futile, but the latest order by the Chief Secretary of Karnataka, TM Vijay Bhaskar confirms approval of the much-desired result.
