Declare Trust vote null and void DMK moves High Court

After a visit to the Tamil Nadu Governor, reports indicate that both Panneerselvam and DMK's MK Stalin were advised to take the issue up in the courts, as the Governor had did not wish to interfere with the Speaker's rulings.

Accepting the suggestion, on Monday the DMK approached the Madras High Court, asking the court to consider a petition against the trust vote held on Saturday. The move comes after Stalin reportedly requested the Governor to declare Saturday's Assembly proceedings as void. The Governor has refused to dismiss the Assembly's proceedings.

The Madras High Court will hear the DMK's petition on Tuesday. The DMK expects the court to declare the trust vote as void and order a new secret ballot.

Interestingly, this is only the first of the cases filed against the trust vote. A rebel AIADMK MLA will also file a petition against it, sources say.
