As a child rape victim, Debie Steven could have easily given up her life or withdrawn in silence, instead, she chose to fight and empower girls around her to defend themselves. 'Action Breaks Silence' and that's what Debie is here to teach us.

 Founder of UK-based charity organisation 'Action Breaks Silence', Steven has taken up a unique mission, travelling around the world, she conducts workshops for women and young girls teaching them various techniques to shield themselves from any form of violence.

"The important thing what we are doing is empowering the mind first. The physical is just a part of it, but actually it's about empowering the mind", says Steven who personally displayed safety techniques at a programme in Ernakulam. She has plans to train at least 10,000 girls from selected schools in India. 

The training session by Steven at Chinmaya Vidyalaya school in Ernakulam on Thursday organised with the cooperation of the State Police Department was well received by students . The girls enthusiastically participated in each session. 

"The girls are taught techniques combining various forms of martial arts which would help them combat any dangerous situation, " an organiser said .
