Tamil connection to Malleshwaram blast gets stronger

Daniel Prakash arrest, Malleshwaram bomb blast, Jayalalithaa, AIADMK

Daniel, who allegedly procured the bomb in the 2013 blast case in Malleshwaram, was arrested by the Central Crime Branch sleuths (CCB) at Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu and has been handed over to judicial custody till June 18.

In a fresh twist to the tale, the accused is said to have been an active member of the AIADMK, Jayalalithaa’s party.

A new theory linking the blast to AIDMK has emerged as the blast took place at the same time Jayalalithaa was being tried at the Karnataka High Court in the property case. The BJP was in power in Karnataka during that time.

Speaking to Asianet Newsable, Sharat Chandra, the Additional Commissioner of Police - Crime Bengaluru confirmed the Daniel was the one who procured bomb for the gang. He, however, said they have no information that would confirm Daniel really was an AIADMK worker.

Prior to Daniel, we had arrested John Asir and Syed Ali who gave us information about Daniel’s role in the bomb blast. John Asir was working for a company which supplied bombs for canal work,” Chandra said

“Daniel was in touch with Syed Ali, who knew John Asir well. John supplied the bomb to Syed and Daniel procured it from him and provided it to the group which executed the blast in Malleshwaram,” he added.

Before Daniel’s arrest, Al-Ummah, a terrorist outfit based in Tamil Nadu had been accused of plotting and executing the bomb blast.

So far, 15 arrests have been made and the police are trying to find solid evidence.

On April 17 in 2013 a bomb went off in front of the BJP office at Malleshwaram in Bengaluru. The blast had injured 16 citizens including eight police personnel and damaged 23 vehicles parked nearby.

Investigations revealed the bomb was planted inside a bike with a Tamil Nadu registration (TN 22 R 3769).
