Accused of sexual harassment, man files atrocity case against IISc

A former employee of IISc has filed an atrocity case against Anurag Kumar, Director of IISc and five other officers in Sadashivanagar Police Station.

Sannarudrappa, an employee in technical division of IISc, has filed the case, and the court has instructed the police to investigate. The police have formed a team headed by ACP of Seshadripuram sub-division and are investigating the matter.

The FIR also mentions five other employees of IISc. Anurag Kumar, the Director of IISc is the first accused (A1), Rajarajan, Registrar of IISC is the second accused (A2). Besides these two, the case has been filed against three more officers (H Chanakya, Sudhakara Rao and Venkatarama Reddy) of the technical division of IISc.

Sannarudrappa was suspended a few months ago based on allegations of sexual harassment on a girl student. Sannarudrappa questioned the suspension order in 7th ACMM (Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate) court. 

In his appeal to the court, he said that the allegation is false and the management has suspended him without internal enquiry. After the hearing, the court ordered the police to file FIR and investigate the case.

In the same appeal, Sannarudrappa has also complained that his colleagues have accused him on the basis of his caste. He also alleged that the employees of IISc were not allowing him even to use the basic infrastructure inside the premises of IISc like the toilet. 

IISc, which has a heritage of 107 years, is for the first time facing this kind of allegations. Also for the first time, a case has been filed against the director of this prestigious institution.
