CPM, CPI trade barbs as KLA controversy deepens
- CPI mouthpiece Janayugam published two articles severely criticising the Chief Minister
A day after differences in the Left Democratic Front (LDF) Ministry surfaced over the Kerala Law Academy controversy, the leaders of the CPM and CPI, the two major partners of the front traded bars, taking their relations to a new low.
In response to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s statement dismissing inquiry into alleged misuse of public land assigned to the KLA, the CPI mouthpiece Janayugam published two articles severely criticising the Chief Minister and reminding the CPM about pitfalls in ignoring history.
Why is the delay in arresting Lakshmi Nair even after a non-bailable case was registered against her under SC/ST Atrocities Prevention Act: CPI mouthpiece
One of the articles stated that those who dismiss inquiry into how the public land was converted into the private property of the KLA, are denying history. It also raised some crucial points questioning the government's reluctance to take action against the Academy and its controversial principal Lakshmi Nair. Why is the delay in arresting Lakshmi Nair even after a non-bailable case was registered against her under SC/ST Atrocities Prevention Act, the article questioned. Those who do not assimilate the lessons of history will end up in the dump yard of times, the article concluded. Interestingly, CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran refused to disown the article.
CPI leaders think they are quite intelligent. But people are laughing at them : EP Jayarajan, CPM
In a sharp response to the CPI, EP Jayarajan, the central committee member of the CPM severely attacked its ally. "CPI leaders think they are quite intelligent. But, people of Kerala are laughing at them," Jayarajan said. He also slammed the CPI for violating coalition ethics. He also mocked the CPI as a very weak party.
Even as the leaders engaged in a war of words, the followers of both parties exchanged barbs on social media platforms, taking the divide deep down.
