Responding to a veiled criticism by MK Damodaran, who was forced to opt out from the post of legal advisor to Kerala CM, Achuthanandan had stated that it was the BJP leader's petition before the High Court that checkmated the senior lawyer. Damodaran had alleged high-level conspiracy and pointed fingers at Achuthanandan for raking up the controversy.

On Thursday, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan took pains to explain that Damodaran, had informed the CPM that he would take up the post of legal advisor to the CM. "He (Damodaran) said he was not compelled by the petition  by BJP state chief," Kodiyeri said. The CPM state secretary also distanced the party from Achuthanandan's statement. "It was his opinion and not the party's," he added.

The CPM will not interfere if there is an issue between Damodaran and Achuthanandan, Balakrishnan said.

The CPM state secretary's statement clearly shows that the party is not happy with Achuthanandan, who bestowed the credit of Damodaran's exit to the BJP.
