Former minister for Infrastructure, information technology, biotechnology, planning and statistics in Siddaramaia's Cabinet is allegedly reported to have resigned from the Congress party as he is not happy with the party's decision of supporting JD(S). This veteran Congress leader was the leader of the opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Council. There are speculations that SR Patil's resignation letter will be dispatched to the President of Indian National Congress, Rahul Gandhi shortly.

It is allegedly said that the JD(S) workers are taking advantage of the power given to them and their behaviour towards the Congress workers is not fair and this has made SR Patil resign from the Congress party. SR Patil was the Leader of the Opposition in Karnataka Legislative Council from June 2012 to May 2013 and was the Leader of the House in Karnataka Legislative Council from May 2013 to July 2016.
