Clash of the Temples: Telangana's Yadagirigutta vs AP's Tirumala

  • In the absence of any well known religious site, Telangana govt has now decided to develop its religious dividend
Clash of the Temples Telangana Yadagirigutta vs AP Tirumala

While the division of the former Andhra Pradesh into two states has turned out to be a religious boon for AP, Telangana is still reeling under the shock of losing three of its biggest and most popular pilgrimage sites.

During the division Telangana - Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple, Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy temple and Sri Kalahasthi temple. Though there is no dearth of temples and religious destinations in Telangana, the interest investors and devotees have for the religious sites in AP is beyond any comparison.

In a bid to strengthen its religious yield, the Telangana govt has now put its faith on Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple. The first step the Telangana govt has taken is to spread the temple complex area geographically by developing the eight small hills near the temple. The govt has taken the help of Yadadri Temple Development Authority (YTDA) to lead the project.

To establish Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple as their own 'Tirumala', they have also decided to raise the height of the gopuram so that it is easily visible from the entire temple area. To relax the body and the mind, the temple landscape will also have a lot of greenery.

Still, it took Andhra Pradesh centuries to build up its reputation, so one has to wait and see how long Telangana will take to regain some godly glory.
