But the new revelation that the entire village belongs to one family has shocked the wits out of the villagers.

The 264 families of Aiyanahalli at Holalkere taluk in Chitradurga are concerned for their future in the village. Even though they have the title deeds, official records indicate that they don’t own the land at all.

Even the school, public places and every inch of land in the village belongs to one man, according to the records.

Durganaik’s family is named as the owner of the land the village stands on, which is spread across 32 acres of land.

The news has created waves in the village as the government is not conducting any development activities here. For example, even though money has been released for a school building, it is not being used.

The so called ‘owner’ of the village is said to have grown into a small tyrant. According to the villagers, they need to take permission from him to even hold the community festival and fair. If anyone dares to speak against his family, they get threatened to be thrown out of the village.

More legal details on the claims are awaited.
