Channakeshava Temple on terror alert

The 900-year-old Channakeshava Temple of Belur, in Hassan district, is on alert after the temple received a threat by a Paksitan-based terrorist organisation on Sunday.

The Intelligence Bureau (IB) informed the temple executive officer, Vidulata about the threat, directing the authorities to intensify the security of the temple. According to officials, Vidulata has written a letter to the SP and the Deputy Commissioner stating his concern over the safety of the temple.

As reported by The New Indian Express, this UNESCO world heritage site was under threat even in 2004 when an international terrorist group had threatened to bomb the temple. Followed by which a special protection force,a bomb squad and a rapid action force were deputed following the direction of the IB. 

In an exclusive interview with Suvarna News, Rahul Kumar, the SP of Hassan said that they will hold a meeting with the local intelligence department, temple authorities and archaeological department in two days and additional forces will be deployed.
