Central forces want more room in Kerala

Armed forces are looking to expand their base in Kerala and have asked the government to allot more land in various parts of the state, Kannur being most in demand. Senior offices of forces placed their request for land during Civil Military Liaison Conference. 
 

Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard approached state government seeking land in various parts of the state. All forces except for Coast Guard have demanded land in Kannur while Coast Guard asked for space in Thiruvananthapuram. 
 

Air Force wants to establish an air enclave in Kannur, near to the upcoming international airport. Navy is looking for more land at Ezhimala where Indian Naval Academy is situated. Army has sought land at Payyambalam, near to its Defence Security Corps. 
 

Coast Guard want to make its presence felt in South Kerala and want to establish their base at Vizhinjam in Thiruvananthapuram, where works fo Adani Vizhinjam Port Pvt Ltd is progressing. 
 

Navy and Coast Guard had earlier made an attempt to find space for their vessels at the post, but the move failed. 
 

There is nothing extraordinary about Air Force's plan to establish an enclave near Kannur airport. Air Station of the force is situated at Shangumukham, near to Thiruvananthapuram International Airport. 
 

The state government has informed the officials that their demand will be considered after discussions. Other requests made by forces include government job for retired personnel, especially in unutilised vacancies. Air Force also sought to improve the water supply facility at Southern Air Command and Control Centre at Mookkunnimala, Thiruvananthapuram. 
 

Civil Military Liaison Conference is an annual meet held to ensure and enable interaction between armed forces and government.
