  • Opposition has condemned the move

Car Bhagya for new cabinet ministers

While PM Narendra Modi has asked his cabinet ministers to abstain from purchasing new cars; the congress-run Karnataka government is all ready to bestow ‘Car Bhagya’ to its cabinet.

The state is all ready to buy new cars for its 13 new cabinet ministers that will dent the state coffers by ₹2.94 crore.

During the KSRTC agitation for a salary hike, the CM had said that there were no funds to give proper salaries to the drivers and conductors. Even after severe protests that erupted throughout the state, the chief sanctioned a paltry raise of just 12.5% on their already meagre salaries.

So, where did the chief minister find an excess of ₹3 crore to buy 13 new cars for his ministers?

The state government has, conveniently, made generous amendments to its car purchase guidelines for the new recruited ministers.

Opposition parties have criticised this unnecessary expenses.
