“The phone was found in the toilet on September 1. The VC had filed a complaint on the basis of information provided by the girl students. We have arrested the accused under section 354C of IPC Act and produced him before the court,” said M Chandrashekhar, police commissioner, Mangalore.

The commissioner in the press meet said that it was a challenge to the police as they did not have any proper evidence with regard to the case. The police had interrogated more than 82 students and had sent the mobile phone to Hyderabad Forensic Laboratory for further probe.

First, the police tracked the original purchaser of the phone and then they tried to find the mobile shop where Santhosh had purchased the phone second-hand. Then the police checked the CCTV cameras that were installed around the mobile shop and it led them to Santhosh.
