Bus strike: Not scared of ESMA, will continue stir, say protesters

Addressing protesters, the president of the KSRTC union today lashed out at the government, saying that it was not right for the government to neglect a judicious demand.
KSRTC workers, who are on a strike from Monday, backed their strike by claiming that they had staged protests earlier too but received no assurances from the government.
“We have submitted memorandums, but as the government has failed to respond to any of our requests, we are staging an indefinite strike. We will not withdraw even if the government declares ESMA against the workers,” Ramachandrappa said.
“There should be two-way talks between the government and workers unions. We have not staged the protest against people or our higher authorities. It is a stir against the government,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Corporation member Avaragere HG Umesh said, “The demands of the workers should be fulfilled soon. The workers will stage a protest in front of the KSRTC office on July 27. If the demands are not met, on July 28, the staff will gather around Chowdeshwari Temple and sing bhajans.”
