The inter-party feuding within the Karnataka state BJP seems to be shifting into a higher gear.
Though state party president BS Yeddyurappa had made his disapproval of the upcoming 'Hinda convention' more than obvious, his strongest rival in BJP, KS Eshwarappa, has even fixed the official date of the conference.
Accordingly, the conference, meant as a meeting for Dalits, backwards and minority sections will be conducted by the Sangolli Rayanna Brigade on September 26 in Haveri.
The brigade is widely considered to be a front for the supporters of Eshwarappa, and its very existence is seen as a snub to Yeddyurappa.
Earlier in the week, Yeddyurappa had argued that all conventions should be organised by the party, and not by an individual leader in their personal capacity. This argument has been wholly ignored.
Speaking about the event, Eshwarappa said, “I am just an invitee to the newly formed Sangolli Rayanna Brigade. I have nothing to do with it. We are together with the brigade and trying to strengthen the party and striving to bring the BJP back to power.”
There have been several heated arguments between Eshwarappa and Yeddyurappa about the forming of the Sangolli Rayanna Brigade.
In caste-sensitive Karnataka, where caste calculations play a significant role in any election, the Lingayat Yeddyurappa is reportedly not pleased that with Eshwarappa's efforts to rally the Kuruba community under his banner.
Politically, the upcoming convention will be a major push for Eshwarappa's efforts to portray himself as a dominant caste leader in the state.
