Doctors' negligence lands 5-year-old Bengaluru boy in coma

An injured finger landed this five-year-old in a coma. Due to negligence of doctors, Akshay has been in a coma for nine days and even today lies in the ICU.

Akshay is a student of Bishop Cotton School, Bengaluru. On June 10, he fell down while playing and there was a small wound on a finger of right hand.

His parents took him to the nearby Mallya Hospital, where the doctors told them that the wound needs a surgery. The doctors allegedly gave too much anaesthesia during the surgery, which caused the boy to fall into a coma.

“My child was very active and healthy. The doctors took him inside and treated him. After a while, they came out and said the child’s heart is weak, we have treated his lungs, and somehow we have got him to breathe. We were worried by their explanation because this was before he had even undergone surgery. Later, we came to know that he has gone to a coma due to excess anaesthesia,”said Purushottam, the boy’s father.

When the doctors of Mallya hospital failed to undo what they had done, they told Akshay’s parents to take him to Manipal Hospital.

“We have been beside with anxiety for the last nine days. Thay have been giving us one excuse after another. I don’t know what treatment they are giving,” said Nandini, Akash’s mother.
