Bomb scare at Mavelikara court premises police begin search

Police received an anonymous call on Thursday warning that bombs have been placed at Munsif court premises at Mavelikara .

Police said the call was made via internet and confirmed that the call was from Saudi Arabia. However, the bomb detection and disposal squad that rushed to the place could not find anything suspicious. Police have cordoned off the area.

However, in view of explosion at Kollam Collectorate on June 15 this year police are leaving no stones unturned and have taken necessary steps to ensure security in the court.

On June 15, a  crude 'steel bomb' kept under an unused jeep exploded at the collectorate-cum-district courts complex in Kollam injuring one person. Further investigation had revealed suspected involvement of religious extremists in the case. Police had also recovered gelatin sticks and 17 batteries and fuse materials from the jeep.

Meanwhile, media persons who arrived at the scene were stopped by lawyers from entering the court campus.
