BMTC to launch 150 electric buses in Bengaluru

By the end of this year, Bengaluru roads are expected to have electric buses which are eco-friendly. BMTC Managing Director Ekroop Caur confirmed the news while addressing the UITP India seminar recently.

The electric buses are better sustainable for the State Transport Undertakings (STUs), eco-friendly, low maintenance, and also more comfortable for the passengers. Apart from this, the operational cost of these buses is comparatively lesser than diesel-run buses, added Caur. With 150 electric buses, BMTC is the first state-run transport corporation to get such high number of electric buses.

Recently, BMTC got the in-principal approval for the Union government’s funding support under Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles scheme of National Electric Mobility Mission Plan 2020.

The corporation is also thinking of creating a single integrated multimodal transport mobile app, Caur said at the seminar on IT solutions for public transport.
