- BMTC Managing Director Ekroop Caur confirmed that the corporation will be inducting electric buses.
- The electric buses are better sustainable for the State Transport Undertakings (STUs), eco-friendly, and low maintenance.

By the end of this year, Bengaluru roads are expected to have electric buses which are eco-friendly. BMTC Managing Director Ekroop Caur confirmed the news while addressing the UITP India seminar recently.Â
Â
The electric buses are better sustainable for the State Transport Undertakings (STUs), eco-friendly, low maintenance, and also more comfortable for the passengers. Apart from this, the operational cost of these buses is comparatively lesser than diesel-run buses, added Caur. With 150 electric buses, BMTC is the first state-run transport corporation to get such high number of electric buses.Â
Â
Recently, BMTC got the in-principal approval for the Union government’s funding support under Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles scheme of National Electric Mobility Mission Plan 2020.Â
Â
The corporation is also thinking of creating a single integrated multimodal transport mobile app, Caur said at the seminar on IT solutions for public transport.Â
