BJP worker killed in bomb blast

An activist of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was killed in a bomb blast in Kattampoyil near Koothuparamba, Kannur, on Saturday evening. 

 

The deceased is identified as Deekshit, 23, son of Pradeep construction worker. The explosion occurred about 7 pm at his house at Koothuparamba in the politically turbulent district of Kannur.

 Police suspect the blast must have occurred while making crude bomb. Deekshit was alone in the house when the accident took place and the house was damaged in the powerful blast. Though the local people rushed the youth to a rushed to a hospital in Thalassery, he was declared brought dead. 

 


​Notorious for political murders and violent clashes, Kannur is also infamous for crude bomb manufacturing. The secretive bomb-making attempts often go awry and many political activists had lost lives or got maimed in the process.

In a similar blast in June 2015, two CPM workers got killed and two others sustained serious injuries when a bomb went off while they were assembling bombs at Panur near Koothupramba.

 

In 2011, five Muslim League workers lost their lives in a blast while they were making bombs at Nadapuram in Kozhikode.
