Bhaskar Shetty murder: Bones found in Udupi river

The probing team has found pieces of bone in a stream near Kalkaru, 12 km from the spot where Bhaskar’s body was allegedly burnt in a ritual fire.

The accused - wife Rajeshwari and son Navaneeth - have confessed that the priest Niranjan, with a help of another man, had thrown pieces of unburnt bones and other evidence into this stream.

The bones will be sent for forensic testing.

Meanwhile, police continued their search for other clues in and around the area where Bhaskar's body is alleged to have been burnt.

Hotelier and entrepreneur Bhaskar Shetty from Udupi went missing from July 28. Police later discovered that his wife Rajeshwari along with his son Navaneeth and her paramour Niranjan had killed Bhaskar and burnt him in a ritual fire.

Currently, the three accused are in judicial custody.

In another development in the case, Niranjan Bhat’s father, Srinivas Bhat and driver Raghavendra, who is charged with shifting Bhaskar’s body, have been arrested by the police.

Bhaskar’s family members, including his mother Gulabi Shetty and younger sister Jayanthi Shetty, have directly accused Rajeshwari, Navaneeth and Niranjan Bhat of the murder.

“Bhaskar’s wife and son along with the priest killed my brother, and we did not even get to see his body. They should be given capital punishment,” an emotional Jayanthi said in an interview with Prime TV.

Further, she accused the police of being involved in the crime. “Police took ten days to tell us our brother was no more. Initially, we wanted to file a complaint against Bhaskar’s wife and son. But the police asked us to submit a missing person complaint. They are also involved in it,” she said.

Chandrashekhar Shetty, a relative of Bhaskar, alleged that Rajeshwari and son Navaneeth Shetty were having affairs, which he claimed Bhaskar was opposed to.
