Another constable with the Frazer Town Traffic Police said the police have this constant fear of being knocked down by drunk drivers.

"I once suffered a fracture after being hit by a car driven by a drunk driver," he said.  It is dangerous especially as the drivers, who drunk try to escape the police and end up sometimes driving over the police as well, he added.

The fear of getting knocked in on the rise as ever year over dozen police personnel get injured, and in few cases, the nature of the injury is so serious that traffic cops succumb to injuries.

Additional Commissioner of Police R Hitendra told Asianet Newsable that while the department plans to crack down on errant drivers, efforts also need to be taken on educating the traffic constables on safe practices.

"The traffic police personnel in the field should understand that when a normal person can get knocked by such negligent drivers, they too can get hit, " he said.

The solution is to put up more barricades during weekends, he added.
