“There will be no service of taxis in Bengaluru from Wednesday. But we will not harm anyone if they want to provide taxi service. We will protest peacefully,” said one of the leaders.

Meanwhile, the leaders of the Ola, Uber Drivers and Owners Association met former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy in his guest house in the UB City to extend his support to them.

To this request, Kumaraswamy has responded positively and said that he would appoint a lawyer to fight the case of the Ola and Uber drivers if they are not in a position to appoint a lawyer. He also said that he would take complete responsibility for the hunger strike and requested the police to give them permission to do so.

“The companies had promised Rs 60,000 to Rs 70,000 earnings per month to the drivers of Ola and Uber cabs. Believing in their word, many drivers have brought new/second-hand cars on loan. Now the companies after making good profits are trying to fool the poor drivers,” said Kumaraswamy.

The drivers have come forward for a hunger strike demanding better incentives and ceasing of attachment of newer cabs by the companies. The move to attach new cabs will affect the bookings of the existing vehicles, they said.
