Bellandur collapse: 2 arrested, death toll rises to 4
- Contractor and one of the owners of the building which collapsed in Bellandur arrested by HSR layout police
- NDRF all set to enter the debris
- With another person dying in hospital, death toll has increased to four
Â
National Disaster Response Force is all set to enter the collapsed building to continue the rescue operation, with four more still believed to be trapped under the rubble.
Â
The building contractor, Srinivasulu Reddy, and one of the owners, Lalith Kumar, have been arrested by the HSR Layout police on Thursday.
Â
On the basis of prima face evidence, it has been found that the building was being constructed with substandard materials.
Â
Speaking to media yesterday, Padmavathi, BBMP Mayor and Muniveerappa, BBMP Joint Commissioner of Mahadevapura Zone had stated that strict action would be taken against the guilty.
Â
Now the search is on for other five alleged owners of the building, who are still at large. A complaint has also been filed against RK Associates, who designed the building.
Â
With the death toll increasing and four more labourers suspected to be trapped in the debris, it seems like the owners will face serious action.
Â
BBMP officers said that the building owner had been sent notice in May to stop work due to substandard work. But the construction work was not stopped.
Â
Taking this seriously, the BBMP has suspended two engineers in the department for negligence.
