BBMP to widen Jayamahal Road

According to a leading national daily, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is determined to widen the Jayamahal Road and is planning to remove or move the trees located there.

BBMP has already requested the permission of Tree Authority to remove or translocate the trees, the Times of India quoted BBMP commissioner, N Manjunath, as saying.

The authority is consulting the Tree Authority and also the experts from Institute of Wood Science and Technology to finalise the translocation of the trees. At this initial stage, the authority has estimated 42 trees to be translocated, and Palace Ground authorities have agreed to it.

The commissioner also stated that the citizens living in Bengaluru have been raising demands for decongestion of traffic along the Jayamahal stretch and to do that the widening of the road is much needed. Therefore, the authority is not shelving this project.

BBMP is also looking for collaborating with a Hyderabad-based team of experts for the translocation of above 5,000 trees in the stretch. The authority is also looking for other options for saving the trees.
