Bengaluru police turn to god to help stop crimes against women from flaring

According to a report in The New Indian Express, Banaswadi police is believed to have conducted a homam to prevent more crimes against women from happening.

The year began on a bad note for Bengaluru. The New Year eve mass molestation incident on MG Road, then the Kammanahalli incident, the frequent reportage of women being harassed etc. all points towards how unsafe the city has become. Police are being pulled up for their inability to put an end to this, despite the policing being increased in the wake of all of this.

The report states that the Banaswadi police source has said a homam was conducted to seek divine intervention in this problem.  The report claims that On January 20, a pooja was performed by Banaswadi police inspector Munikrishna and his wife. Vaasthu pooja, Sudarshana homa and Shatru Samhaara Yaaga were conducted between 5am and 9am, but when asked whether any such ritual was held in the police station, the answer was in the negative.
 

The Sudarshana homa is believed to be effective in overcoming one's enemies and to relieve one from inexplicable sufferings and worries. It can also help stop unforeseen dangers and perils on one's path to success. The Shatru Samahara Yagna is also believed to be effective in preventing evil forces or enemies from gaining influence over you.

Previously in 2015, following several road accidents on National Highway-48, Kalambella police have been reported to have performed Shanthi Homa believing that evil spirits were causing the accidents.

Most recently, an employee of an IT company in Whitefield committed suicide by jumping off from the office cafeteria balcony. Spooked by the occurrence, the officials there are believed to have conducted a pooja to ward off any effects.

It is surprising how despite being so progressive there are still some of us who still believe that performing poojas and homams will prevent incidents caused by man.
