Chandrababu Naidu’s AP dream hinges on China

Andhra Pradesh to sign sister state deal with China’s Guizhou

Andhra Pradesh is all ready to sign a sister state relationship agreement with China’s Guizhou Province on June 29 in order to enhance the economic cooperation between the two states.

The agreement will be signed in the presence of chief minister Chandrababu Naidu, who will embark on a five-day visit to China with a large contingent of 13 members; including ministers, senior officials and trade representatives.

This will be Naidu’s second trip to China. The last time Naidu visited the Communist nation for five days in April 2015, it resulted in Chinese electronic companies, Foxconn and Xiaomi setting up smartphone manufacturing units in Andhra Pradesh.

Apart from attracting Chinese participation in the IT and infrastructure industry, Naidu sees a big market for red sanders (red sandalwood) in China. The AP government plans to set up a permanent depot in China, a major importer of red sanders.

After participating in the  ‘Annual Meeting of the New Champions’ from June 26 to June 28 hosted by the World Economic Forum, the AP chief minister will explore possible tie-ups with China for the development of its capital city Amaravati.

Chinese participation is on the rise in Andhra Pradesh, in the past two years, China has become the most visited foreign nation among AP ministers.

The State has already entered into an agreement with Guizhou International Investment Corporation of China (GIIC) to build an iconic city square in Vijayawada City, the temporary capital of the state.

The Vijayawada city square will be constructed in the heart of the city at Swarjya Maidan, on an expanse of five acres for an estimated cost Rs 135 crore. The design has already been approved by Naidu and he will hold further talks on the project with the GIIC representatives.

”On June 28, the Chief Minister will travel to Guiyang, the capital of the Guizhou province of the Southwest China where he will visit Guiyang Urban Planning Exhibition Museum, Guiyang International Eco-conference centre and the Headquarters of GICC,” said CMO sources.

According to CMO sources, Naidu will also meet leaders of Guizhou Province and participate in a program organised for signing the agreement for a Sister State relationship between Guizhou and Andhra Pradesh.

On the final day, Naidu will participate in a road show meant for the promotion of investment activities in Andhra Pradesh.
