Kicked out of Cabinet, Ambareesh resigns from MLA seat

Ambareesh resigns from MLA seat

In a sudden development, Ambareesh has decided to resign from his MLA position two days after he was sacked from the Karnataka Cabinet.

After been sacked from the Karnataka Cabinet on Saturday, MLA Ambareesh claimed that he would abide by the decision of the 'High Command' and the CM.

But the tables seemed to have turned in his mind today. He has sent a one-line resignation letter to the Speaker of the Karnataka Assembly, through his personal secretary Srinivas.

The letter simply said - "I am resigning from my MLA position of Mandya constituency".

The Acting Speaker was having a press meet in his office when Ambareesh’s personal secretary abruptly arrived and handed over the letter. However Shivashankar Reddy, the Acting Speaker, has not accepted the letter saying the MLA should physically come to the Assembly and submit a resignation himself, with valid reasons.

Interestingly, this is not the first Ambareesh has committed the same technical error. During the Cauvery issue a few years ago, he had decided to resign from his MP seat. At that time, he had submitted his resignation letter to Sonia Gandhi, the Congress president, and not to the Speaker of the House.

Now Ambareesh is likely to come personally and submit his resignation with a suitable explanation.

“The decision of giving or not giving a ministerial position is left to CM Siddaramaiah, but the people of Mandya have elected him as their representative. He should not defy their choice”, the JD(S) MP of Mandya, CS Puttaraju, said as a response.

Congress workers and Ambareesh Fans have been protesting in Mandya against the Cabinet sacking by blocking the national highway. Even his wife Sumalatha has tweeted and expressed her dissatisfaction:
