TN politics: AIADMK factions sack each other, OPS camp meets Speaker

 Senmalai, Pandiarajan from Panneerselvam’s camp have met Speaker Dhanpal ahead of floor test on Saturday. Edappadi Palanisamy, The new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, will have to prove his majority in the floor test. He has claimed the support of 124 MLAs. However, he needs the support of 118 MLAs for a simple majority.
 

Soon after Sasikala’s proxy Edappadi Palanisamy took charge as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Thursday, Panneerselvam stated that he and his team would fight the Mannargudi family till Jayalalithaa’s regime is restored. As a first step towards this, the praesidium chairman of AIADMK Madhusudhanan has sacked Sasikala and her nephew from Mannargudi, TTV Dinakaran from the post of party chiefs.

After Supreme Court had convicted Sasikala and her two relatives Sudhakaran (Jayalalithaa’s foster son) and Ilavarasi in the disproportionate assets case, Sasikala inducted TTV Dinakaran as the deputy general of the AIADMK and also Dr Venkatesh, who were expelled from the party by Jayalalithaa. Currently, Sasikala is lodged in the Parappana Agrahara jail in Bengaluru. She will serve four years of jail term.

On the other hand, Panneerselvam has been alleging that Sasikala and Palansiamy have kept the MLAs in the Golden Bay resort, forcefully. Saravanan, MLA from Madurai, who was also taken in the bus by Sasikala supporters to Golden Bay resort escaped in disguise had filed a complaint in the Koovathur Police Station that they were kidnapped and were mentally and physically humiliated in the resort.
 

However, Madhusudhanan was sacked from the post of praesidium chairman by Saiskala, last week, when he showed his support to Panneerselvam. Madhusudhanan is in the post from 2010 and was appointed by Jayalalithaa.

Now the confusion still prevails as there are questions about Sasikala’s decisions taken as General Secretary as she was not elected as per the AIADMK constitution. The constitution says that AIADMK primary members, who are in lakhs, should elect the party general secretary.

The matter is with the Election Commission (EC) and now the validity of Sasikala being the General Secretary of the AIADMK party and the decisions she has taken lies with the decision of the EC. If the EC declares her appointment as party chief null and void, then all decisions she has taken including the appointment of TTV Dinakaran as the party chief.
