AIADMK founder MGR kin's murder case verdict on July 13

Eight years after the murder of former Tamil Nadu chief minister MGR's foster son-in-law, the principal Sessions Court will pronounce its verdict on the case on July 13

K Vijayan, 53, alias Vijayakumar, was murdered on June 4, 2008.

A preliminary probe by the police had indicated a dispute over the control of properties bestowed by MGR on his family as the motive behind the crime.

In 2008, the crime branch, which investigated the murder, said it was the brainchild of a police constable, and was carried out at the behest of N Banu, who was also a close relative of the victim.

It was reported that Banu had an ongoing feud with her brother Raja, alias Dilipan, over the control of one of the schools run by the family. Raja had filed a case in a court in this regard.

Banu suspected that Vijayan had been influencing her brother's decision. She conspired to murder Vijayan along with constable Karunakaran. Investigations revealed that Banu had paid Karunakaran ₹4 lakh to commit the crime.

The four contract killers, hired by the constable, attacked Vijayan's car and hacked him to death near Alwarpet some eight years ago.
