Mridula Murali to hit Bollywood as Capt. Lakshmi Sahgal

Actress Mridula Murali to play Capt Lakshmi Sahgal in her Bollywood debut

Actress Mridula Murali has hit the bull's eye that only a few actresses in the tinsel town can boast of. The actress, who has done only a handful of movies in Malayalam and Tamil, has bagged a ticket to Bollywood and will be doing a coveted role in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s 'Raag Desh'.


Mridula will portray none other than the revolutionary Captain Lakshmi Sahgal in the period drama based on Indian National Army. The movie also has Kunal Kapoor and Mohit Varma on board.


The freedom fighter, who led the all-woman Rani of Jhansi regiment of the Indian National Army was a close aide of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. A qualified doctor, Captain Lakshmi was a well-respected figure among the masses for her self-less and dedicated work for the uplift of the downtrodden.

 

In 1970s, Captain Lakshmi joined Communist Party of India -Marxist  and contested as the presidential candidate of the Left in 2002 against  A. P. J. Abdul Kalam.

 

The fearless leader passed away in 2012 following a heart stroke at the age of 97.
