The incident occurred in the District and Sessions Court in Bidar on Monday, when an accused tossed his slipper at judge Hanchate Sanjiv Kumar.

Mohammad Raseeoddin was arrested for smuggling ganja in 2012. Later, he was released on the bail.

On Monday, when Mohammad Raseeoddin appeared in court for the trial, the judge postponed the hearing to a later part of the day. Following this, when police constable Sharanappa was collecting signatures of witnesses, Raseeoddin is said to have threatened him.

The constable immediately informed the judge of this, who took the matter seriously. When the hearing of the case commenced, the judge cancelled the bail issued to Raseeoddin and handed him to police custody.

This angered Raseeoddin, who in turn threw his slipper at the judge, resulting in a contempt of the court proceedings.

Sources said that separate cases will be booked against Raseeoddin for threatening the police and for throwing his slipper at the judge.

Meanwhile, advocates have decided not to fight Raseeoddin’s case and have explained the situation to the judge, said Advocates’ Association President Anil Kumar Karanje.
