North-East residents report most number of abuse in Bengaluru. Now, landlords want to avoid having them as tenants.
An Asianet Newsable investigation found that the house-owners in Bengaluru east which is a preferred area are refusing to give homes to North East residents as owners feel that "giving house to them is like inviting trouble."
Since the January 1 incident, wherein a woman from the North-East was molested outside near her house in Kamanahalli, the Resident Welfare Association have issued a notice asking house owners to verify the background of all tenants.
"The rules made by North East Resident Welfare Association are so stringent that the owners will be made liable in case their tenants make mischief and involves in any police case. This one clause was enough to tighten the noose around owners who just rented houses for huge rentals without verification, " said DS Rajshekhar, Executive president of the Bengaluru North East Residents Welfare Association.

Bosco Kaweesi, an African origin who is working for the welfare of African immigrants in Bengaluru said, the landlords are using the notice by police for background check only to deny the homes for rent.
"We have always coordinated with police and still we are targeted. In case if there are any issues with African's, through our association we will take the matter to embassy and request for taking them back," he said.
