The special investigation team that is probing the abduction and assault of popular Malayalam actress had less than 24 hours to grill Pulsar Suni, the key suspect in the case and to corroborate it with the statements of his gang mates. The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Ernakulam had ordered the police to present him before the magistrate before 1 pm on Friday, giving only a limited time to the SIT to gather maximum information from the suspects. The SIT did not waste time and started questioning Pulsar Suni and his accomplice separately just after they were nabbed on Thursday afternoon, and it went on for hours.

In the wee hours on Friday, the SIT took Suni for collecting evidence to Athani from where the actress's car was intercepted by the goondas. The procedure began at 2.50 am on Friday and completed by 5 am.

Even though Pulsar Suni told the police that he threw away the mobile phone in which he captured the visuals of the actress into the drainage near Vennala in Kochi, the police could not recover the device from there. The mobile phone is crucial evidence in the case.

The government has given strict instructions to the SIT to recover the mobile phones used to shoot the visuals the actress. No photograph or video of the actress captured by the goondas should be allowed to leak, the higher officials instructed the SIT.

Suni reportedly told the police that he planned the abduction to extort money from the actress through blackmailing. He told the actress that it was a 'quotation' or that he was hired by someone else, as a means of threat.  Even though Suni told police that nobody else was involved in the planning, the SIT has not taken it at face value.

Suni and his aide Vijeesh who were arrested from a courtroom in Ernakulam on Thursday afternoon will be produced before a magistrate at Aluva by 1 pm on Friday.

Meanwhile,  Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan congratulated the police team for catching the culprits while Leader of Opposition Ramesh Chennithala said it was a shame on the police force to nab the culprits from inside a court room. BJP state president Kummanam Rajashekharan felt the arrest from the court a 'suspicious' act.
