A new born baby was discovered to be missing from the ICU

A thief, posing himself as an acquaintance of child’s parents, has stolen 6 days old baby from Jayanagar Public Hospital, on Friday, February 3, 2017.

Tyagaraj, the father of the baby is a cab driver and his wife Sahana had given birth to twin babies on January 29, 2017. The girl child was kept in ICU due to jaundice and the mother was breast feeding the baby in her ward once in every two hours.

On Friday, February 3, at around 12.45 p.m. an anonymous person entered inside the ICU and introduced himself to the nurse as a relative of baby’s mother and asked for the baby for breast feeding. The in-charge nurse who was on duty handed over the baby to him without verifying the facts of his claim.

Later within a few minutes Tyagaraj came to the ICU to carry the baby for feeding and came to know that the baby is missing. He immediately lodged a complaint at Tilak Nagar Police station.

The police have checked the CCTV cameras installed near the ICU and have spotted an anonymous person taking the baby from the hands of the nurse, but his face is not clear in the video footage. The police have recognised the same person, wandering near around the hospital on the previous day also. However he is not seen going out of the hospital premises with the child. The police infer that he has handed over the child to one of his associate who was waiting for him inside the hospital and has escaped.

Tilak Nagar Police have lodged the complaint and are investigating.
