Bengaluru: Kempegowda International airport's customs officials on Friday (August 2) seized about one kilogram of gold, hidden in the rectums of two passengers who landed in the city on the same day. It is reportedly said that the gold, hidden in their rectums were in the form of paste contained in capsules.

According to airport officials, the gold seized from the two passengers weighed 1.05 kg and cost about Rs 37.4 lakh.

According to reports, the two men reached Bengaluru from Dubai via Goa. The two accused were on board Air India flight AI 994, which landed in the city at 5:35 am.

The reports further said that the officials approached the duo after they were seen acting suspiciously while they waited in the clearance area of the airport.

Kempegowda International Airport saw a dip in smuggling activities over the past few months while the last large-scale seizure was reported in April 2019.

In April, the officials nabbed three men for smuggling gold worth Rs 29.30 lakh concealed in their rectums as they had smuggled the gold in the form of paste in pellets mixed with other chemicals and insulated with tape.
