Bengaluru: The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation’s (KSRTC) Mysuru rural division rolled out its first service of multi-axle Airavat Volvo AC sleeper buses on Monday to Mumbai. The bus is called Ambari Dream Class.

The division had no such buses and the buses that plied to Mysuru were from other depots.

KSRTC launched the long-distance travel bus to emphasise the comfort factor. The service from Mysuru to Mumbai is called ‘Ambari’ suiting Mysuru’s legacy. The transport unit might introduce similar services in other routes also.

According to reports, the divisional controller (Rural) stated that two buses have been introduced in the Mysuru-Mumbai route. Cities such as Chennai, Hyderabad and Belagavi will be covered soon.

The 14.5-metre long bus can accommodate 46 passengers in lower and upper berths. There is a daily service and travellers can book tickets in advance. The one-way ticket price for a passenger is Rs 2,000.

The journey from Mysuru to Mumbai takes 20.5 hours. The bus will start from Mysuru at 1 pm and reach Mumbai at 9:30 am the next day. Similarly, the bus will depart from Mumbai at 1 pm and reach Bengaluru at 9:30 am the next day.

The bus travels through Shravanabelagola, Shivamogga, Harihara, Hubbali, Belagavi, Kolhapur and Pune.

The Mysuru division had sought for eight such Volvo AC Sleeper buses from the central office in Bengaluru. This was to cater to the demands of the passengers, reports said.

It was after facing severe competition from private bus operators that the KSRTC decided to introduce inter-city Volvo AC sleeper buses. Reports released earlier in March had stated that the transport unit will launch 22 sleeper coaches in six months.
