Share your emails if you want a credit card from this bank

We all love credit cards don’t we? The process of getting one is a pain as there’s so much paperwork and verification involved. But once it goes through smoothly and you have the card in your hands, you feel accomplished. But how will you react if the process requires checking all you personal emails and contacting list? You will feel that your privacy is being violated by the bank right?

Believe it or not, a report of Medianama said that HDFC Bank has come up with such a process where they have laid down three ‘golden rules’ of online verification if you are seeking a credit card from them:

## You will have to permit the bank to view all your email messages

## You will have to grant permission to the bank to access all your personal contacts.

## You will also have to share basic info like age range and language and other email addresses.

How is this even legal? How can a bank invade someone’s privacy in this fashion? Is the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) aware of this? Or is it just that they made up these rules?

HDFC Bank is taking the help of a third-party company called Verifi.Me. This company apparently is helping them with the verification service.

People who had applied for HDFC Bank credit cards went berserk on Twitter complaining about the bank’s audacity to invade their personal space. Some of them also requested RBI and the Central government to look into this issue.
